Weep Man of Famine Release and Updates
There are two upcoming titles this year in the Weep series; Man of Famine and Frostbite.
Man of Famine
This book starts off immediately after the endings for both Slack Jaw and The Irish Epidemic. As Samantha sails towards Westport, Fin's having a bit of an auld weep on his paddle board.
This story will have three point of view characters. Samantha takes the brunt of the first act to get us to Westport. Then Fin has his turn on Clare Island. Burke, an Irish Ranger gets a few chapters too.
Frostbite
This story is shorter than the main books in the series. Think of it in line with A Ring of Oak and Apple. We go back to Edel's first encounter with the weeping sickness and her imprisonment with the group researching it.
Speaking of A Ring of Oak and Apple, I'm getting some stick over that title online. People enjoy the content, not necessarily the name. I'm getting variations of 'Oh I hate how uncreative writers have become these days. A something of something and something.' If they only knew - it's far less creative than that. The title came about because the story mostly takes place inside a ringfort of oak and apple trees = A Ring of Oak and Apple. I thought I was the business with that four years ago.
I never knew it was a trend, so, my apologies if you came to A Ring of Oak and Apple thinking it was a steamy fantasy. The closest you'll get to that in this book is Fin sniffing his girlfriends perfume… doesn't sound as romantic when I put it that way.
Release Dates:
If you've been here a while, you'll know that my level of professionalism regarding sticking to release dates is completely lacking. I can confirm that if you miss your release dates for pre-orders, Amazon will give you a slap on the wrist and not let you have one for a full year. Now I know, it’s little failures that success are built from. No harm, pre-orders and snacks are two things I shouldn't be let near without supervision.
So I will not make promises I cannot keep. You will get Man of Famine this year. I’ll not be any finer on the details - not to be secretive, it would only be a guess.
To put your mind at ease, I am working on it. Man of Famine has been a bit of a slog. I think it has to do with making the transition to writing full time. 'I get to make stuff up all day,' became 'if I don't make stuff up all day, my very real bills won't get paid.' That line of thinking gives new weight to the blank page.
Leaving my full time job, I thought, all the time I was dedicating to something else, would go straight to writing…
The output has remained the same, so I've rented a little office space to knuckle down. No home comforts, or distractions. There are people that can completely focus at home, I’m not one of them. How’s it going? Well my blog output has skyrocketed…
Now that I’m in an office environment around serious people doing serious work, I can put on my clip on tie and borrow some of that forced productivity. Maybe not the best environment to day dream, but it’ll do the job for now. Great excuse to go mad on stationary again. I’m keeping an eye out for a particular Action Man pencil case that was all the rage back in the late 90s.
The Lost Letters
I'm editing the latest entry in the Lost Letters series of shorts. This one actually is short. Tab became a little novella. The working title is Tracks. This story takes place in the early hours of the outbreak. News has spread and people are coming to terms with this new reality. While some panic, one man plans to take advantage of the chaos. I'll say no more, it's short so I've given away a third of the story already with that.
All the best and thanks again for reading,
Eoin.
