Paperbacks for Slack Jaw

If you’re shopping in the Republic of Ireland for a physical copy of Slack Jaw, you’ll notice that under the paperback section it reads ‘Currently Unavailable.’ It would be more accurate to say ‘permanently.’ You may be thinking, ‘that fella must be doing shocking well, they can’t even keep his books in print.’ That’s not the case. It’s a print on demand service. The book only exists once somebody puts an order in. If I gave you three guesses as to the reason why, would one of them be Brexit? If so, you’ve hit the nail on the head.

If you’re shopping in Ireland, you won’t be able to purchase a physical copy from Amazon.co.uk because of Brexit. You can read about it here because it does not just impact books. My dad was going mad looking for tool bits and I suggested checking a different European Amazon storefront… problem solved. Except, it’s not the most intuitive patch. I wouldn’t have known that had I not spent ages chatting with Amazon to figure out why a book written in Ireland, about Ireland, published in Ireland, cannot be bought in Ireland.

How do you get around this?

Use any other European Amazon storefront such as Amazon Germany or Amazon France. Shipping might be a bit more costly, but aside from that, the process is still the same.

Having all my books in one basket has caused this problem. A good few people have reached out asking after paperbacks. I think I’d be in the majority of readers that would just move on to a different book if there was such an obstacle in my way to reading Slack Jaw. So, I’ll be working on alternative ways of getting your hands on a book. I’m thinking about selling them direct. Should have that in place before the end of this year.
