Weep: Frostbite

The end of the world did not begin in Ireland. The Irish Epidemic was only the first recorded outbreak. In ‘Frostbite,’ the chilling, post-apocalyptic prequel to Weep, Edel, a diligent research assistant specialising in earth sciences, embarks on an expedition to Antarctica with a team of seasoned scientists. Their goal: to extract pristine glacial ice core samples for research. The team's joy over a successful drilling operation is short-lived when, during a celebratory toast, an unforeseen horror unfolds. Some of the team prefer their whisky on the rocks and chip off ice from unused cores, unwittingly infecting themselves with a virus that transforms them into savage, slack jawed, weeping creatures.

Edel, armed with her meticulous preparation and notes from a survival course that had been the target of her colleagues' ridicule, now faces an excruciating decision. Abandoning the research facility in Antarctica's desolation would almost certainly lead to her death, while staying trapped alongside her infected teammates is a perilous alternative. Her tale is a stark exploration of the depths of human survival instincts, where courage, resourcefulness, and determination are Edel's greatest allies.

Weep Frostbite a post-apocalyptic thriller

When a response team to her calls finally arrives, the secretive military organisation that whisks her away aboard an enigmatic, insignia-less ship raises unsettling questions. Edel finds herself the sole survivor and realises that her harrowing journey has only just begun.

"Frostbite" is a heart-pounding post-apocalyptic story that delves into the very essence of humanity's ability to endure against the bleakest odds. As Edel navigates the perils of a world altering virus, readers are taken on an unforgettable, pulse-pounding journey through icy, unforgiving terrain.

Frostbite is ‘The Thing’ meets ‘28 Days Later.’ This shorter story will be available early 2024, before the continuation of Fins story in ‘Weep Man of Famine.’ If you’d like a sneak peak at what happens to the ship that comes for Edel in Frostbite, it features in chapter one of Slack Jaw: Ghost Ship. Fifteen years later.
